PREMIER REPORTS FOR APRIL 2008

MIDWEEK

APRIL 30

The big Premier match between leaders St Martins and second place Exeter Civil Service was postponed because of a waterlogged Minster Park, but that gave Exeter University the chance to close up thanks to a 1-0 win at Topsham Town. Andy Blundell with a 30 yard screamer scored the only goal and the result keeps the college in with a title shout. Just four points separate the top five.

Cullompton Rangers final match of the season saw them crash 7-3 at Clyst Valley. Javier Martin hit a hat-trick for Clyst, Ollie Bird 2, James Ibbesson and Mike Lashbrook were the other scorers. Jamie Cottrell, James Bedford and Dan Greening were the Rangers scorers and at one point they led 2-1 before going 6-2 down at the break.

Hatherleigh Town went on to beat Bickleigh 4-3 after scoring in the first minute with a spectacular long shot from Graham Bryant. Simon James 2 and Will Chapman added further goals. Jordan Copp, Nathan Haskins and Stuart Anderson with his 11th penalty scored for Bickleigh who play Beer Albion in the league on friday night at Tiverton's Ladysmead stadium.

APRIL 28

St Martins are the new Premier division leaders in the Devon and Exeter League after their 3-0 win at home to the champions of two years ago, Heavitree Social Utd. Goals from Lee Parker, Kevin Pike and Steve Bassett won it for the Minster Park side, whose keeper Aiden Barrett saved a penalty when Heavitree were just one down. Saints are now a point clear of Exeter Civil Service who are at Minster Park on wednesday night.

The University were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Sidmouth Town and that was another blow to their hopes of the title. Luke Davis and Dave Jarman with a free kick scored for the college after they had gone behind, but the vikings dug in for a very welcome point.

Topsham Town also drew 1-1 at Hatherleigh Town and were almost home when the North Devon side equalied from Matt Wonnacott. Kevin Webb was the tops scorer.

SATURDAY APRIL 26

Title favourites St Martins are set to go top of the Premier table tonight if they beat Heavitree Social Utd, just two days before the big one when they meet current leaders Exeter Civil Service (wednesday), both matches at Minster Park. The Saints moved into position with a 2-0 victory against rivals Wellington Town, top scorer Darren Bingham getting both goals, and it was another solid performance from Saints who are keeping their nerve. Saints were helped by keeper Andy Rawlings with a penalty save when it was 1-0, but generally the home side controlled the game. Wellington manager Nick Bowrah was happy with his team's effort despite seeing their chance of winning the league almost disappear. Wellington had seven of their regular side missing, and Bowrah rated it as their best effort for a couple of months. Tonights clash with Heavitree will not be a pushover, the Wingfield Park side want to end their season on a high and have pledged to give it everything.

Thorverton could have gone top had they won at Beer Albion, but the mid Devon side were clipped 1-0. The only goal came from second teamer Luke Bartlett twenty minutes from time after the thors keeper fumbled the ball. Both teams played good football, but somehow the desire for Thorverton was missing according to last seasons manager Ian Harris. Beer were anxious to get the three points they needed to reassure safety, and Bartlett who has been knocking in goals for fun in the reserves had the right answer when his chance came.

Exeter University were dealt another major loss, 3-1 at Bickleigh, which means they have only collected one point from their three matches this past week. Bickleigh fully deserved the points although they were under pressure at times, but Luke Passmore who scored their opening goal gave them a lift. Nathan Haskins made it 2-0 by the break, and although the college got it back to 2-1 with a Luke Davis goal, they gave away a penalty after upending Kieran Rapo, and Stuart Anderson stuck away the spotkick. Bickleigh manager Nigel Raybould was delighted with the win but his team are approaching a target of points which could mean the boss has to dig deep into his savings.

Hatherleigh Town won their basement clash against Sidmouth Town 2-1 and that means they are safe. Dean Rice and Simon James scored for Hatherleigh but even they admit they were pretty flat and the vikings were unlucky not to have taken away at least a point. Simon Hudson was the Sidmouth scorer from the penalty spot, but defeat was tough on manager Paul Ashford who feels his side did not deserve to lose. Sidmouth are at the University tonight and are hoping that Hatherleigh can do them a favour by stopping relegation rivals Topsham Town also tonight.

Feniton won 6-1 at Cullompton Rangers to complete a double, but were fended off for twenty minutes before getting through. It was only 2-0 at the break, but Feniton finally took control to rack up a scoreline which helped their goals record. John French scored twice for Fenny with Andy Jones, Mark Simic, new signing Mike Phillips and Mark Kingdon getting singles. Lee Maunder had the Rangers goal.

TEAM OF THE DAY - BEER ALBION

MIDWEEK

WEDNESDAY APRIL 23

The University hopes of winning the Devon and Exeter League's Premier division took a major knock when they were beaten 2-1 at Heavitree Social Utd on wednesday night. The Wingfield Park side took a two goal first half lead through Stacey Thorpe and Mark Smith, and although the college hit back after the break, Heavitree deservedly saw out time.

Bickleigh were 2-1 winners at Heavitree Harriers and the hosts fully admit that the mid Devon side were the better team. Goals from Kieran Rapo and Andrew Murphy won it for Bickleigh, with James Nichols on target for the Exmouth side.

MONDAY APRIL 21

Thorverton missed the chance to overtake Premier leaders Exeter Civil Service when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Exeter University on monday night. Both clubs had chances, but the University keeper was the busier of the two minders and superbly saved a couple of late efforts from the thors who only have one game left to play, at Beer this saturday.

Topsham Town beat Cullompton Rangers 5-2 and opened a four point safety cushion on the bottom two. Ryan Pym 2, Ian Curran, Kevin McGuiness and Danny Pym scored for the Tops.

SATURDAY 19 APRIL

St Martins hopes of winning the Premier title for the first time were acutely dented at Hatherleigh Town by a shock 2-1 defeat. The winning goal from Dean Rice, his second of the game, came in the last few minutes of a tense but well balanced match, and for Hatherleigh boss Stuart Dymond it was a victory his team well deserved. The North Devon club led at the break and although St Martins did get back on terms with a strike from top scorer Darren Bingham they never did enough to establish a hold, and paid the price. Saints still have matches in hand on most of their rivals but it was a huge loss. For Hatherleigh it was equally a huge win and probably ensures they will be in Premier again next season.

Exeter University returned to action after their Easter break, and began a ten match run in with a 4-2 victory at Clyst Valley. The college side could steal the title from under everyone's noses if they win their matches in hand, and they could not have started better. Tom Arnold, Dave Jarman, Chris Thorpe and Chris Hurst were the University scorers. Xavier Martin had both goals for Clyst who did score first, but it was their third defeat in eight days.

Thorverton are up to second place after their 2-1 win against Beer Albion, but it was a classic game of two halves. Two Emlyn Harris goals had Thorverton in command at half-time, but Beer reduced the lead after the break with a John Cooper goal, and after that did everything but score, hitting the woodwork twice. For Thorverton their season could now depend on thursday nights big match against the University at Raddon Road.

Wellington Town ended a poor spell with a 3-1 win against Sidmouth Town but did not get on top until the second half. The vikings, battling against the drop, held on well, but once Wellington were ahead the result was not in doubt. Matt Coleman, John Matthews and Craig Aspin scored for Wellington with Mike Stamp getting a late consolation for Sidmouth.

Cullompton Rangers were within ten minutes of beating Heavitree Social Utd, but from two corner kicks the Exeter side scored twice to win 2-1. Rhys Daniels gave Cully a first half lead, and Heavitree were in trouble until they equalised with an own goal. Wayne King then netted the winner, and defeat means Rangers have to apply for re-election.

Feniton are fed up with the sight of Heavitree Harriers after losing for the fourth time this season, twice in cup ties, to the Exmouth team. Harriers won the latest clash 2-1 despite going a goal down in the first five minutes. Stuart Blackmore was the Fenny scorer after home keeper and manager Jody Bolt dropped "Blackies" cross as he crashed into the post. However Norbert Taras struck back quickly for the Harriers and Liam McMahon then netted the winner, and that means Harriers are out of danger.

TEAM OF THE DAY - HATHERLEIGH TOWN

MIDWEEK

WED APRIL 16

Relegation threatened Topsham Town shocked Clyst Valley 3-1 in the Premier division on wednesday night. Two goal Tim Rivett and Ian Curran with a 40 yard free kick earned Topsham the points and they climb above Sidmouth Town who were held to a 1-1 draw by Beer Albion. Mark Badcock scored for Sidmouth but Beer equalised in the second half from Matt Rowson.

MONDAY APRIL 14

Heavitree Harriers followed up saturdays success at Wellington with another big victory at Thorverton on monday night. The Harriers won 3-2 with Andrew Taylor scoring twice and Liam McMahon once. Wlll Pennington and a blockbuster from Lee Riggs replied for Thorverton but their Premier title hopes were virtually ended by this defeat.

Bickleigh won 4-0 against Cullompton Rangers with Kieran Rapo getting a hat-trick. Jordan Copp also scored.

SATURDAY APRIL 12
Heavitree Harriers produced the shock of the day when they came from a goal down to shatter title chasing Wellington Town 4-1. The Somerset team looked to be on the way to a predictable win against the Exmouth side, but the Harriers turned the game on its head with a startling recovery that has really eased their relegation worries. Kensey Farnham was the Wellington scorer, but Heavitree were back on terms within five minutes and by the break had soared into a 3-1 lead. In the second half the Harriers added a fourth goal and despite having a man sent off were strong enough to hold out for a win that put manager Jody Bolt on cloud nine. Liam McMahon who has only scored once since October for the Harriers netted a brace, Chris Abrahams netted his first of the season and Bobby Dawson added the fourth. Defeat takes Wellington out of the top three and has really diluted their hopes of the championship. Harriers are seeking another big win at Thorverton tonight while the Somerset team are at home to Feniton tomorrow night under lights.

Leaders Exeter Civil Service beat Clyst Valley 3-1 but had to wait some time before stamping their authority on the match. Roly Tomlinson broke the deadlock five minutes before the break, but the Valley responded in the second half with an equaliser from Mark Hill. Peter Darke then twice set up Sean Densham to win the game for Civil who felt they deserved the victory against a weakened Valley side which now looks out of the running for a top three slot.

St Martins moved ominously into second place after a 2-0 win at Bickleigh, and although Saints are five points behind Civil they have five games in hand. Darren Bingham with a penalty and Lee Parker scorer for St Martins but they were impressed by the home side who for the first quarter of the game were marginally the better team. Bickleigh host Cully tonight.

Thorverton won 2-1 at Topsham Town and ease into third place alongside St Martins but having played three matches more than the title favourites. Emlyn Harris and Wayne Radford were the Thorverton scorers, but they had to come from a goal down to nick the points. Ryan Pym was the Topsham scorer but their relegation worries were increased by this latest setback.

Heavitree Social Utd hit a golden patch just after half-time to shatter Sidmouth Town 4-2, despite Ben Henderson   missing a penalty for the second week running, Sidmouth keeper Luke Ashford saving. Then Andy Thompson hit a stunning goal just before the break for Sidmouth to take the lead but the Wingfield Park side slammed four goals in twenty minutes as they forced their way back. Man of the match Wayne King with the first two goals, Stacey Thorpe and Darren Pattinson with a 25 yard free kick ship-wrecked the vikings. Anthony Griffiths scored a second for Sidmouth, but by then Heavitree were out of sight.

Hatherleigh Town clambered to relative safety after they shocked a disinterested Beer Albion 2-0. Home manager Matt Rooke was far from impressed by his team's efforts on the day, but it was a huge victory for the North Devon side. Dean Rice and Simon James scored for Hatherleigh whose manager Stuart Dymond said he was surprised at how ineffective the fishermen were.

Cullompton Rangers are within touching distance of having to seek re-election for the second successive year having gone down 4-0 at Feniton, and that reality will be down to just one more defeat if they lose tonight at Bickleigh. Two goal Andy Jones, Jamie Easterbrook and John French scored for Feniton, but they spluttered against a Rangers side which never gave up and were a little unlucky not to have scored. Fenny manager Dave Carnall feels his team will have to play a lot better at Wellington tomorrow.

TEAM OF THE DAY - HEAVITREE HARRIERS

SATURDAY APRIL 5

St Martins regained their tag as title favourites with a devastating 7-0 victory at bottom of the table Cullompton Rangers. The Saints never gave Rangers under new manager Dave Greening a look in, and led by a Ross Parker hat-trick it was just a matter of how many. Darren Bingham, Matt Anderson, Kevin Pike and an own goal completed St Martins victory and for manager Mike Nosworthy it was just the response he expected after their last outing and a depressing four goal defeat at Civil Service two weeks ago. Nozzer said he did not have to say too much to his team before kick off, they knew what was required and they did not let him down. Defeat leaves Cully in dire straits with six games left to play, and still ten points from safety.

Leaders Exeter Civil Service reopened a three point cushion after a 2-1 win at Heavitree Harriers, but they had to work hard for the victory. The opening Civil goal from Sean Densham did not arrive until just before the break, and it was some way into the second half before Roly Tomlinson netted their second. Harriers hit back five minutes from time through Bobby Dawson, and caused a few late flutters, but Civil were able to shut up shop. Civil were missing a few key players but reckoned they were value for the points. Harriers meanwhile remain on the brink of the relegation trap door, and probably need a couple of wins from their last six matches to feel secure.

Wellington Town moved up to second place after their 2-0 win at Hatherleigh Town, but the North Devon side felt they dipped out because they missed a hatful of first half chances. Then early in the second half Wellington broke the stalemate and scored again to take the match away from their hosts. Craig Aspin and Ashley Gaines were the Wellington scorers, but on the positive side for Hatherleigh they have games in hand on their rivals in the basement.

Heavitree Social Utd feel they blew it in their derby clash against Topsham Town which ended 4-4. It was a big result for relegation worried Topsham who took the lead after Heavitree missed a penalty, but then trailed 4-2 before getting two goals in the last ten minutes to salvage a point. Ben Henderson missed the first Heavitree penalty kick, but kept his nerve when given a second chance for a 2-1 lead. Stacey Thorp scored Heavitree's equaliser after Ryan Pym gave Topsham the lead. Tops manager Danny Carpenter nabbed the first of his two goals to make it 2-2, before Thorp and Elliot Wells holed out for Heavitree who seemed in control at that point. However Gavin Ward and Carpenter scored for the tops as the Heavitree defence, which is the second worst in Premier, caved in again. Topsham keeper Gary Yelland had a brilliant match before getting injured and replaced by brother Jamie.

If there were goals galore at Heavitree, they were in scant supply at Clyst Valley where it finished 0-0 against Beer Albion. The fishermen did hit the woodwork four times, but Clyst manager Jeff Weeks felt his team had by far the majority of the game especially in midfield, without really creating many openings. It was the third draw on the bounce for Clyst, and any hopes of a top three slot now depend on them virtually winning their last five matches.

SATURDAY APRIL 26

Otterton are closing in on the priceless third place in Senior 1 after their exciting 3-2 victory at the University. The Otters began well, Simon Tuley with an overhead kick putting them in front, but by the break they were 2-1 down. However Gary May then equalised and Tuley came up with the winner for Otterton who have three matches left to play including last night at Alphington to collect the six points they need and head for the promise land of the Premier division. Defeat for the college leaves them in relegation danger.
Seaton Town are currently third and signed off the season with a stunning 7-2 win at relegated Exeter St Thomas, but they now have to sweat it out. Four goal Bradley Groves was the main tormentor for Seaton with George Moore, Mark Perham and Jamie Poynton completing their tally.
The only other side in with a shout are Willand Rovers who beat Broadclyst Social Club 4-2 but they really admit they were lucky. Sam Williams, James Ansell, Lloyd Beech and an own goal undid Broadclyst whose Tony Kyle scored both their goals and had a third disallowed.
The big relegation scrap between Alphington and Elmore ended 1-1 but both teams still have four matches to play. Elmore scored first but the Alphas equalised with a penalty from Dean Jordan after manager John Gott was upended.
Culm won 1-0 against Exmouth Amateurs which confirms the Ammies relegation. Paul Harris was the Culm scorer.

Upottery beat the University 3-2 and join Halwill on the same points but Upottery have an inferior goal difference. Andy Isaac, Mark Reed and Andy Lord scored for Upottery.
Sidbury Utd just a point behind Upottery kept the pressure on their two rivals with a startling 6-1 win at Lympstone. Russell Coombes with a hat-trick, Mark Hadley, Mike Pigeon and Ben Woolley were the Sidbury scorers. Defeat means the Lympets are in major trouble and even if they beat Barnstaple on saturday in their last game it might not be enough.
Exeter Civil Service won their final game 3-0 at Dawlish Town which keeps them up, but Dawlish remain on the brink. Sean Densham, Frankie Yabboah and Roger Walford in his retirement match scored for Civil.
St Loyes remain in big danger after folding 6-1 at Barnstaple whose manager Keith Shapland starred with a hat-trick, but the Exeter side still have four games to play.

Morchard Bishop uncorked the champagne after winning the Senior 3 title with a 7-0 romp at home to South Zeal. Neil Vogwill 2, Ross Brealy, Liam Scholfield, Matt Woodward, Darren Searle, and Chris Andrews were the happy Morchard scorers, but Zeal are now in serious trouble.
The big upset came at Uplowman Athletic where second place Beacon Knights went down 6-3 after leading 3-1. Oran Trump with a hat-trick, Dan Jackson, Darren Criddle pen and Craig Jackson scored for Uplowman. Chris Baker 2 and George Burningham were the Knights scorers, but they are now under threat for runners up.
Heavitree Social Utd pose that danger after their 2-0 win at Seaton Town. Richard Phillips and Wayne King were the Heavitree scorers.
Colyton are up to fourth following their excellent 3-0 victory at Kentisbeare which ended the hosts chances of promotion. Matt Hewer, Paul Millman and Adam Wakley were the Colyton scorers.
Lapford are out of the relegation zone for the first time after winning 3-2 at Pinhoe. Luke Skinner, Ollie Mclennan and Jack Tweedy scored for Lapford. Andy West and Tim Hamlin replied for Pinhoe who are clinging on by their fingernails.
Winkleigh stay in danger as they were beaten 2-1 by Tipton St John. Simon Bolt scored the Winkleigh goal.

Axminster Town clung on to top spot in Senior 4 with a 5-2 win against a very good Newton St Cyres team. Richie Emmett netted a hat-trick for the tigers.
Title favourites Witheridge crushed relegated Crediton Utd 6-0 and the visitors had their keeper sent off. Alex Shepherd 3, Kye Smith 2 and Sam Holmes were the Withy scorers.
Clyst Valley who have clinched promotion for the fifth year running without winning a title, won 4-0 at Westexe Rovers with Mark Harris 2, Simon Coombes and Tom McDonough scoring.
Newtown are relegated after chucking away a two goal lead at Tedburn St Mary where it finished 2-2. Richard Denning scored both goals for Newtown, but their failure to win saved Dunkeswell who have already ended their season.
Topsham Town enjoyed a 3-0 win at Chard Town to wrap up their season. Lewis Heaver 2 and Gary Simpson scored for the tops.

Dawlish Utd were unable to stop Senior 5 champions Phoenix Club edging ever nearer their ambition to go the season unbeaten losing 4-1 at home to the Wonford club. Ryan Smith, Joseph Taylor, Mark Layfield and Jason Worth shared the Phoenix goals.

TEAM OF THE DAY - MORCHARD BISHOP

MIDWEEK

WEDNESDAY APRIL 23

Westexe Rovers won 2-0 against the University with second half goals from Jason Manley and Andy Lane.

Newtown climbed out of the relegation zone in Senior 2 after winning 3-0 at the University. Corey O'Donahue 2 and Alex Woolsgrove were the scorers.

Uplowman Athletic put paid to Kentisbeare's slender hopes of promotion from Senior 3 after their 2-0 win. Adam Westbrook with a brilliant overhead kick and a Darren Criddle penalty did the job for Uplowman.

Pinhoe had to call off their match against Morchard Bishop as their ground remains waterlogged.

Axminster Town regained the leadership of Senior 4 with a 1-0 win against Dunkeswell Rovers. The tigers goal came from Ben Turner. Defeat means Dunkeswell who have completed their season could go down if Newtown win their last two matches.

Broadclyst Social Club are relegated from Senior 5 after losing narrowly to champions Phoenix Club 1-0.

Oakwood made certain of runners up spot with a 3-1 win at Exmouth Amateurs. Paul Ticehurst had all three goals, Steve Wynn replying for the Ammies.

TUESDAY APRIL 22

Budleigh Salterton are the Drvon & Exeter League Senior 1 champions after grabbing a 1-1 draw at Willand Rovers last night. Subsititute Neil Pointing scored their equaliser just two minutes from time after Rovers had led most of the game from James Howe. The result means that Newtown finish as runners up, but was a massive blow to Willand hopes of third place and possible promotion as they chase either Seaton Town or Otterton.

MONDAY APRIL 21

Exeter St Thomas were relegated from Senior 1 after crashing to a 6-0 defeat against the University, but Elmore won their basement battle against Alphington 2-1 with Kevin Mills getting their winner in the last minute. Jamie Bircham was the other eagles scorer.
Exeter Civil Service beat Honiton 4-3 in a cracking match at Foxhayes after being two goals down. Pete Darke 2, Jason Bastin and Jason Jordan with a penalty scored for Civil but with just one match to play they are still in serious danger of the drop.

Dawlish Town eased their fears with a 5-1 win against the University and they have a game in hand on Civil. Gary Hodgson 2, Damien Furneval, Liam Jones and Dave Walker scored for Dawlish.

SATURDAY APRIL 19

Rock bottom Exmouth Amateurs won just their second match of the season when they defeated the University 2-1 but that has delayed their almost inevitable relegation from Senior 1. The winner from Jamie Williams came in the last five minutes but Ammies manager Rick Withers felt his young side deserved what was a rare success. Lloyd Lowman scored Exmouths first goal, but with just four games left their plight still looks desparate.
Leaders Budleigh Salterton not only made sure of a top three slot for themselves and second place Newtown but and are just one point away from clinching the title after their 2-1 win at Seaton Town. First half goals came from Craig Higham and Dave Evans after Seaton had been incensed by having a goal turned down. Ollie Highett eventually scored for Seaton but they were unable to force an equaliser and they are under pressure for third place. The robins could be champions tonight (tuesday) if they avoid defeat at Willand, but Seaton's loss means Newtown who were not in action are certain to finish at least as runners up.
Otterton came from 2-1 down at half-time to beat Exeter St Thomas 5-2 and if they win their last four matches will finish third. A Kevin Pitts hat-trick and two goal Ross Lawson destroyed the Saints, but Otters manager Richard Tapp was not happy at the break. Defeat leaves the Saints one game away from the drop.
Willand Rovers the new Devon Senior cup holders were held to a 0-0 draw at relegation threatened Elmore who felt they could have won it. The eagles keeper Ben Turner and Neil Wilkinson starred, but Willand have to virtually win their last six games to catch the top three.
East Budleigh won 2-0 at Westexe Rovers with second half goals from Lee Irvine and Luke Kelsall, but were saved in the first half by keeper Nathan Hadley.
Broadclyst Social Club responded to their midweek cup disappointment with a 5-2 win at Alphington. Tony Kyle 2, Lee Williams, Colin Gray and manager Paul Taylor scored and was pleased with the team's response.
Newly crowned Senior 2 champions Bow AAC were shocked 2-1 at struggling Lympstone and that means the East Devon side have taken four points from their visitors this season. Peter Smith and James Beverly scored for Lympstone which has also given them a big lifeline for safety.
Nervous Halwill came from a goal down to edge Newtown 2-1 and need just one win from their last two matches to be promoted. Steve Hackett and Darren Martin with his first goal this season scored for Halwill. Newtown whose goal came from Alex Woolsgrove drop back into trouble but have matches in hand.
Third place Upottery were beaten 2-0 at St Loyes which means the Exeter side are out of the bottom three. Ryan Harris with a penalty and Darren Eshun scored for St Loyes who also missed a penalty. Ben Harris was the pick of the side.
Sidbury Utd won 1-0 at the University with a brilliant header from Matt Rasmussen, and that keeps their hopes of a top three slot in the balance.
Sidmouth came good 4-2 against Honiton Town but the vikings with just match to play are relegated.
A jubilant Morchard Bishop are within one win of the Senior 3 title after they beat Kentisbeare 3-1. Two goal Sam Andrews and manager Warren Patmore scored for Morchard, but Kentisbeare's promotion hopes now look very slim.
Beacon Knights are promoted after their 3-1 win against Pinhoe and will have clinched runners up spot if they beat Heavitree Social Utd last night (monday). Andy Channing with two goals and John Bristowe scored for the Knights but Pinhoe remain in the bottom three.
Third place Heavitree crushed Seaton Town 7-1 with Callum Roberts bagging a hat-trick. Shaun King 2, Ross Carstairs and an own goal did the rest.
The Motel & Offwell may be relegated but are going down with a bang. The Rangers won 3-2 at Winkleigh their second win in four days. Liam Spiller scored twice for the East Devon side.
Clyst Valley are promoted from Senior 4 despite their 3-1 defeat at league leaders Witheridge. Clyst took the lead through Mark Harris, but Withy recovered with a double strike from Anthony Vigus and a Steve Roach goal.
Second from top Axminster Town who like Witheridge are also promoted beat Chard Town 5-3 for the second time in four days. Joel Seward and Terry Emmett both scored twice for the tigers, and Chard's loss means they cannot catch the top three.
Bampton in fourth place came from a goal down to beat Topsham Town 3-2. Danny Loftus with two goals and Sean Hitchcock scored for the ponies.
Newtown cling to safety by their fingertips after beating Crescent 1-0, who were playing their last match of the season. The only goal came from Richard Denning but Newtown must win their last two and hope Dunkeswell lose their final game at Axminster tomorrow. Crescent could still go down if Newtown win their last two matches with an aggregate eight goal advantage and the Dunks get a point.
Newton St Cyres hopes of fifth place were boosted by their 2-1 win against Westexe Rovers.
Oakwood made sure of runners up spot in Senior 5 after they beat Kentisbeare 4-1 which in turn relegated the mid Devon side. Oakwood skipper Chris Eynon starred with two goals, his first of the season, with Nick Gumm and Lee Fryatt also scoring.
Champions Phoenix Club won 4-1 at St Martins who were playing their last match but still happy at being promoted. Ashley Bailey 2, Aaron Lee and Lee Brown scored for Phoenix whose Ashley Cummings starred. Shane Cox was the Saints scorer.
Dawlish Utd routed Broadclyst Social Club 10-2 but that was enough to earn the South Devon side fourth place. Damien Connery with a hat-trick, David Chadwick 2, Sam Ryder 2, Sam Gill, Mike Richie and goalkeeper Richard Vickery scored for Dawlish, but Broadclyst teeter on the brink.
Sampford Peverell beat Exmouth Amateurs 5-0 with goals from Tim Robinson 2, Luke Hayfield, Andy Baitup and Phil Roberts scoring, and defeat sends the Ammies down.

TEAM OF THE DAY - EXMOUTH AMATEURS

MIDWEEK

Devon Senior cup final at Cullompton 15 April

Willand Rovers lifted the Devon Senior Cup at Cullompton's Speeds meadow last night (tuesday) with a superb 2-0 victory against Devon & Exeter Senior 1 rivals Broadclyst Social Club. Both goals came from Sam Williams, his first on the half hour mark coming with an inspired shot on the turn which left his marker and the Broadclyst keeper and secretary Paul White flatfooted. Then in the closing stages Williams headed in his second goal just minutes after Broadclyst had almost equalised with their only shot of the game. Overall Willand dominated the final with Lloyd Beech the pick of the side, and Sams brother and defender Rory Williams, enjoying a terrific first half. To complete a special night for the Williams family, Sam and Rory's dad Ian was watching on the touchline, and Ian was the scorer of the only goal for Willand when they beat Liverton in the final in 1986.
Broadclyst admit they did not do themselves justice on the night, but the club which was only officially formed in world cup year 1966 can feel proud to have reached its first ever major final.
The two teams have yet to meet in the league this season, so Broadclyst may get revenge and will play a key role in Willands hopes of getting promotion to Premier.
